Signing in and your account

Confirming your email, forgotten passwords, and what you cannot do yourself yet.

Confirming your email

You can sign in and read straight away, but a handful of things wait until you have clicked the link in the confirmation email: posting, commenting, uploading a file, sending a friend request, and taking an invitation. Everything else — reading, accepting requests, editing your profile, changing settings — works regardless.

Settings shows a banner while you are unconfirmed, with a Send another link button. Links last 24 hours.

A forgotten password

On the sign-in page, type your email address into the box first, then press Forgot password? underneath. It emails you a link good for 30 minutes. Passwords are at least 10 characters, and resetting signs you out everywhere else — which is the point of it, if somebody else has been in your account.

For the same reason the reset page does not tell you whether an address is registered, it also cannot tell you when it has failed. If nothing arrives, check the address you typed, then write to us — the contact form works signed out, and that is deliberate: being locked out is exactly when you need it.

Things you cannot do yourself yet

These do not exist in the app. They are not hidden; they have not been built.

  • Changing your email address.
  • Changing your password while signed in — the reset flow above is the only route.
  • Changing your handle, which is permanent.

Deleting your account used to be on that list and is not any more: it is under Settings → Your data, along with a copy of everything we hold about you and the list of devices you are signed in on.

Ask us for any of them and we will do it by hand. If one of these matters to you more than the others, say so on the request board — that is what decides what gets built next.

Not what you were after? Ask us, or ask for it to be built.
